Is There a Dentist Open on Sunday in Westlake?

Yes. Our Westlake office is open on Sunday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM for dental emergencies. Call (561) 372-2189 first and we'll hold you a same-day time. If it's after 2:00 PM, a person still answers and holds the Monday 7:00 AM opening for you.

Sunday is a hard day to have a toothache. Most dental offices are closed, and it's easy to assume your only choices are an ER or waiting until Monday. Here's what's open, what to do before you call, and how to get through Sunday evening if you miss the window.

How to get a Sunday appointment

  1. Call early. We open at 8:00 AM and close at 2:00 PM, so calling first thing gives you the most choice of times.
  2. Describe the problem. Which tooth, how long it's hurt, any swelling, fever or bleeding.
  3. Get your time. We'll hold a same-day appointment for you. We don't accept walk-ins, so please call even if you're already on your way.
  4. Bring what you need. ID, a dental plan card if there is one, plus any piece of tooth or crown that came loose.

What counts as a Sunday dental emergency?

Not every tooth problem needs a Sunday visit, but these usually do:

  • Severe or throbbing toothache that over-the-counter pain relievers don't touch
  • Swelling in the gum, cheek or jaw
  • A broken tooth with pain or a sharp edge
  • A knocked-out adult tooth, where the first hour matters
  • A lost filling or crown with sensitivity
  • Wisdom tooth pain with swelling or trouble opening your mouth

The American Dental Association's guide to dental emergencies covers knocked-out teeth, toothaches and other urgent problems, and advises keeping a knocked-out adult tooth moist at all times on the way to the dentist.

When to go to the ER instead

Head to an emergency room before calling us if your cheek is puffing up toward the eye, the swelling has crept under the jaw into the neck, swallowing or breathing feels tight, you're running a fever with a swollen face, a jaw that won't close, or a serious injury. In Westlake, ER at Westlake is near our office.

Hospitals treat the infection or the injury. They generally don't treat the tooth itself, so call us for follow-up once you're stable.

What if it's after 2:00 PM on Sunday?

The office closes at 2:00 PM, but the phone doesn't. Call (561) 372-2189 and a real person will take your details and hold the 7:00 AM Monday opening for you. That means you won't spend Monday morning on hold.

Until then:

  • Take an over-the-counter pain reliever as the label directs, if it's safe for you.
  • Sleep with your head raised.
  • Use a cold compress on your cheek, 15 minutes at a time.
  • Avoid chewing on the sore side.
  • Save any knocked-out tooth in milk, and any crown in a small bag.

If things get worse overnight, especially swelling or fever, go to the ER.

What a Sunday visit costs

For patients paying without insurance, the emergency visit starts at $99 for the problem-focused exam and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth, the same on Sunday as any other day.

The $99 is a minimum fee for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam (ADA code D0140) and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

If you have a PPO, HMO or Medicare Advantage dental plan, the exam and X-ray are billed to your plan. More on our cost and insurance page.

When to call a dentist today

If it's Sunday and your tooth can't wait, call (561) 372-2189 now. We're open until 2:00 PM, and we hold same-day time for emergencies. Every day of the week is covered on our weekend emergency dentist page.
