Emergency Wisdom Tooth Extraction in Westlake

When a wisdom tooth is infected, cracked or pushing hard against the molar in front of it, removing it can end the problem for good. Call (561) 372-2189 for a same-day exam at our Westlake office. Our dentists remove wisdom teeth in-house, and you get the price in writing before any treatment begins.

The $99 is a minimum fee for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam (ADA code D0140) and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

Signs you need an emergency wisdom tooth extraction today

Removal is usually the right call for a wisdom tooth that:

  • Keeps getting infected under the gum flap
  • Has a cavity too deep to fix in a spot you can't brush well
  • Broke or cracked
  • Is tilted into the second molar and damaging it
  • Is causing swelling in the cheek or jaw
  • Hurts every time you chew on that side

If you're dealing with wisdom tooth pain and aren't sure whether it needs to come out, that's what the exam is for. Not every sore wisdom tooth must be removed.

Swelling that spreads toward the eye or down the neck, trouble swallowing or a high fever means an ER visit first. ER at Westlake is close to our office.

What happens at your same-day visit

Call ahead. Walk-ins aren't accepted, and an extraction needs a block of time set aside.

The dentist examines the area and takes the X-ray needed to see the tooth's angle, its roots and how close it sits to the nerve in the lower jaw. Then you'll hear one of three things:

  1. It can come out today. Common for upper wisdom teeth and lower ones that have fully come in.
  2. It can come out, but not yet. If the area is badly swollen, numbing works poorly. The dentist may calm the infection first and schedule removal soon after.
  3. It's more involved than a typical removal. Deeply buried teeth or roots wrapped near the nerve take more planning. We'll be straight with you about that.

For the extraction itself, we numb the area thoroughly. A fully erupted tooth is loosened and lifted out. A partly buried one may need a small opening in the gum, and the tooth may come out in pieces. You'll feel pressure, but you shouldn't feel sharp pain. Tell us if you do.

You go home with gauze, written aftercare and our number.

Cost of wisdom tooth extraction in Westlake

Without insurance, the visit starts at $99 for the exam and X-ray. With a PPO, HMO or Medicare Advantage dental plan, the exam and X-ray are billed to your plan.

The removal is quoted after we see the X-ray, since an erupted upper tooth and a tilted lower one are very different jobs. You decide after reading the written price. We take cash and cards, and offer in-house payment plans and Sunbit, Cherry and CareCredit financing. See the cost and insurance page.

Frequently asked questions

Can an infected wisdom tooth be pulled right away?

Sometimes. If the swelling is mild, removing the tooth can clear the infection at the source. When swelling is severe, numbing doesn't work as well, so the dentist may treat the infection first and remove the tooth a few days later. We'll explain which applies after the exam.

How long is recovery after a wisdom tooth extraction?

Most people feel noticeably better within a few days, and soreness usually fades over about a week. Lower teeth and partly buried teeth tend to take longer than upper ones. Soft foods, rest and following the aftercare sheet make a real difference. Call (561) 372-2189 if pain spikes after day three.

What is dry socket and how do I avoid it?

Dry socket happens when the blood clot leaves the socket too early, exposing bone. You'd notice it as a deep, nagging ache around day two to four. Skip straws, cigarettes, vapes and forceful spitting for the first several days. If you think you have one, call us. It's treatable.

Should I have all four wisdom teeth out at once?

In an emergency we focus on the tooth causing the problem. If other wisdom teeth look likely to cause trouble, the dentist will mention it and you can plan that separately. Nothing extra is done without your written approval. For other extractions, see emergency tooth extraction.
