A toothache that wakes you up, pulses with your heartbeat or makes it hard to chew deserves a dentist's eyes the same day. Phone (561) 372-2189 and our Westlake office will save you a slot today. We find the cause, stop the pain at its source and tell you the cost before any treatment.
The $99 is a minimum fee for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam (ADA code D0140) and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

Signs you need toothache relief today
Some aches fade on their own. These usually don't:
- Pain that lasts more than a day or two, or keeps coming back stronger
- Throbbing that gets worse when you lie down
- A tooth that hurts long after something hot or cold is gone
- Pain that spreads to your ear, temple or jaw
- Swelling in your gum or face, or a pimple-like bump near the tooth
- A bad taste or smell that brushing doesn't fix
- Fever along with tooth pain

Pain is a signal. Painkillers can quiet it for a while, but the cause keeps working underneath. A deep cavity, a crack or an infection in the nerve won't heal by itself. Waiting usually makes the fix bigger.
If swelling is moving toward your eye or down your neck, or you're struggling to breathe or swallow, skip the dentist and go to an ER first. ER at Westlake is nearby.
What happens at your same-day visit
You call first. We give you a time today, so a dentist and a room are ready when you arrive. Walk-ins aren't accepted, and the call is also how we learn whether you need the ER instead.
At the visit, a dentist asks where it hurts and what sets it off. We take the X-ray needed to see the root and the bone around it. Then we tap, test with cold and look for cracks. Most toothaches come down to one of a few causes: a deep cavity reaching the nerve, a cracked tooth, an infected nerve, a gum infection or a wisdom tooth pushing in.
Once we know the cause, we explain it plainly and hand you a written price. Treatment might be a filling, a root canal to save the tooth, or an extraction if the tooth can't be saved. Nothing starts until you say yes.
Cost of toothache relief in Westlake
The exam and X-ray come first. For patients paying without insurance, that visit starts at $99. If you have a PPO, HMO or Medicare Advantage dental plan, the exam and X-ray are billed to your plan.
Treatment depends entirely on the cause, so we don't quote it over the phone. You'll get a written price after the exam. Cash, cards, in-house payment plans, and Sunbit, Cherry and CareCredit financing are all options. See cost and insurance for the full picture.

Frequently asked questions
What can I take for a toothache until my appointment?
A drugstore pain reliever, used the way the box says, can dull it if your doctor has no objection. A cold compress on the cheek for 15 minutes at a time can ease swelling. Don't put aspirin directly on the gum, since it can burn the tissue. Then call (561) 372-2189 so the cause gets treated, not just the pain.
Is a toothache an emergency if there's no swelling?
It can be. Severe pain, pain that lingers after hot or cold, or pain that wakes you at night often means the nerve is involved, even without swelling. A same-day exam tells you what's going on before it turns into an infection. If you're unsure, call and describe it. We'll tell you how soon to come in.
Can a toothache go away on its own?
Sometimes the pain stops, but that isn't always good news. A nerve that dies can go quiet while infection builds at the root tip. Sensitivity from a small irritation may settle, but a deep cavity or crack will not repair itself. If pain fades and comes back, or you notice swelling later, get it checked.
Will I need a root canal or an extraction?
Not necessarily. Many toothaches are solved with a filling or by treating a gum problem. If the nerve is infected, a root canal can usually save the tooth. Extraction is for teeth that can't be saved. We explain each option and its written price, and you choose.
