A filling that fell out or a crown that came off leaves the tooth underneath exposed, so plan to have it fixed within a day or two, and today if it hurts. Call (561) 372-2189 for a same-day visit at our Westlake office. Bring the crown if you have it. We'll check the tooth and quote the repair in writing.
The $99 is a minimum fee for patients paying without insurance. It covers a limited, problem-focused emergency exam (ADA code D0140) and the X-ray needed to diagnose the tooth. Treatment is priced separately and quoted to you in writing before any work starts.

Signs you need a lost filling or crown repaired today
Losing a filling or crown isn't always painful at first. Call us today if:
- The tooth is sensitive to air, cold drinks or sweets
- It aches on its own or when you bite
- A sharp edge is catching your tongue
- The crown came off with part of the tooth still inside it
- You see a dark spot or a hole where the filling was
- The gum around the tooth is sore or swollen

Even with no discomfort, get it seen soon. The exposed tooth is softer than enamel and decays faster. A crown left out for weeks can stop fitting as nearby teeth shift.
What to do until your visit
- Keep the crown in a small bag or container. Don't throw it away.
- Brush the area gently and rinse after meals.
- Chew on the other side.
- Dental wax or a temporary filling kit from a pharmacy can cover a sharp hole for a day or two.
- Don't glue a crown back on with household adhesive. It can damage the tooth and make a proper repair harder.
What happens at your same-day visit
Please call first. Walk-ins aren't accepted, and a short call lets us set aside the right amount of time.
The dentist checks the tooth, looks for new decay and takes the X-ray needed to see what's going on under the old filling or crown. Then:
- Lost filling: we clean out any decay and place a new filling, often in the same visit.
- Crown came off intact: if the tooth underneath is healthy and the crown still fits, we can often clean it and cement it back.
- Crown broken or tooth damaged: we protect the tooth with a temporary cover and plan a new crown.
- Infection found: a root canal may be needed before the tooth is rebuilt.
You'll see the written price for whichever route fits, before we touch the tooth.
Cost of lost filling or crown repair in Westlake
Patients paying without insurance start with a $99 exam and X-ray. If you have a PPO, HMO or Medicare Advantage dental plan, the exam and X-ray are billed to your plan.
Re-cementing a crown, placing a filling and making a new crown are priced differently, so we quote after the exam. Pay with cash or card, use an in-house payment plan, or apply for Sunbit, Cherry or CareCredit financing. The cost and insurance page has the details.

Frequently asked questions
Is a lost filling an emergency?
When it doesn't hurt, think of it as soon rather than right now. Get it fixed within a day or two so the exposed tooth doesn't decay or crack. If it hurts, is sensitive, or has a sharp broken edge, call (561) 372-2189 for a same-day time.
Can you put my old crown back on?
Often, yes, if the crown is intact, still fits well, and the tooth underneath is healthy. The dentist cleans both surfaces and cements it back. If the tooth has new decay or broke inside the crown, a new crown may be needed. Bring the crown with you.
Why did my filling fall out?
Fillings wear down over time. New decay around the edge, a crack in the tooth, grinding or biting something hard can all loosen one. The exam finds the reason so the new filling lasts. If the tooth is cracked, see our broken tooth page.
Can I eat with a missing filling or crown?
Yes, carefully. Stick to soft foods, chew on the other side, and avoid very hot, cold, sweet or sticky foods. Rinse after eating to keep food out of the open area. Get it repaired soon.
